In this edition the Atchison Daily Globe Proudly Presents the 100-Year Story of a Most Successful Country Town.
100 years ago the city of Atchison was founded and was named for U.S. Senator David R. Atchison of Missouri, whose statue is located on the court house grounds at Plattsburg Missouri. Senator Atchison was president of the Senate, ex-officio vice president of the United States, and actually served as President of the U.S. for a day, an unusual circumstance frequently mentioned whenever chronological lists of U. S. Presidents are compiled. The statue was erected by the State of Missouri Memorial Commission. Photo is by Wyatt Butler of Atchison.
