Research Notes

Notes

This bannerstone was found in Indiana. Quite a few of the bannerstones in the collection of the St. Joseph Museums were discovered in Indiana, as that part of what is now the United States was a relatively heavily populated region when these stone tools were being used (about 5,000 years ago). There are three bannerstones on this shelf in this exhibit, each one drastically different in shape, size, and stone type even while serving similar purposes (as a counterweight on a spear, arrow, or atlatl)
