Description

The Beginning of the West, Annals of the Kansas Gateway to the American West, 1540-1854, was published by the Kansas State Historical Society and considered a significant book on Kansas history. The layout starts with 1540 and is divided into sections by years all the way up through 1854 when the Kansas territory was created and its land opened for settlement by others than Indians. Dale Lowell Morgan of the Bancroft Library contributed much and aided Louise Barry in her research. Originally only 300 pages were planned, but with changes and additions, the book contains over 1000 pages. This book is from the Don Reynolds collection. 1296/Hardbound/Illustrations/Maps
