"Bob Biffle who was a cowhand on the Horseshoe-Bar Ranch in the Cherokee Strip of Indian Territory, Oklahoma. His lasso was made of horsehair because it was believed a rattlesnake would not cross horsehair. In order to safely sleep on ground at night, Bob tramped down the grass inside the circled lasso and laid down.
Born and reared at Pecos in West Texas, he married Minnie Smedly, niece of Camp Lynch of Agency, Buchanan County, Mo. Lynch was manager of the 55,000 acre Oklahoma Territory ranch. When the Cherokee Strip was opened for settlement in 1889. Bob made the run and secured a good quarter section of land for his own home. Photo by Al Smith, Halstead, Kansas in the 1880s."
