Research Notes

Notes

This decorated pottery bowl was created in Tennessee by a Cherokee potter. Cherokee pottery is characterized by their stamped decoration. Potters would use carved wood paddles or natural materials like corn cobs to impress a design into wet clay before firing. All pots were hand-formed; Cherokee potters did not use a pottery wheel when creating their pottery.
