Buchanan County Poor Farm & Inmates Photos (6), 1915. b/w. Six scenes, one of exterior, and five of interior of Poor House and the people living there. Handwritten on back of one: "Presented by John Bredul, March 2, 1945. 447/11129 = Exterior of the corner of a large 2-story white brick structure. Group of c. 40 men standing in front. A number of the men are of advanced years. There attire ranges from overalls to suit jackets. All are wearing hats. A man in cook's white stands in center. Typed on back: " 1915 County Poor Farm and Inmates" 447/11130 = Interior view of living quarters. 4 white men and 2 black men seated around the room, one on bed, one at table, the others in chairs. Coats & hats on wall pegs. Crutch on wall peg. Piping visible on ceiling. Typed on back: "Inmates" 447/11131 = Interior view of hallway with stairs leading below. One man seated on bench against wall, 2 men on another bench in corner. Another man ascending stairs. Doors to rooms along wall. Paint is peeling, photo of darkened space. Typed on back: "Inmates" 447/11134 = Interior view of attic room, the ceiling a slanted roof, pillar supports. Beds lined up along slanted ceiling area. Man on bed with can reading. Caps, coats on pegs on support pillar, Other men barely visible in dark background. Typed on back: "Inmates". 447/11135 = Interior view of hallway, Men seated on benches along the walls. Bucket (spittoon?) on each bench. Dark photo, one bare light bulb extends from piping in center of hall. Typed on back "Inmates." 447/11136 = Interior view of women on sun porch. 13 older women, including one black woman, seated on chairs, one a wicker rocker, windows on two sides of along room. A younger woman is standing in doorway behind some type of movable cart. Typed on back: Inmates". Original digital scan located on History CD 01
