Description

Burning of the Heck Reel Wagon Train. August 1, 1876, Indians attacked and partly destroyed Heck Reel's ox-powered freight wagon train near Elk Horn on the Cheyenne-Ft Fetterman Trail. Bishop and Vaughn had conducted a scientific survey of the old trail to determine the exact location of the attack. This article combines the results of the known historical facts and the site.
