Centennial of Pony Express, News Article, Gothenburg Times, April 7, 1960. "Pony Express Rerun Reaches Here Tuesday". News story on detailing the commemorative stamp and envelope for the Centennial
Centennial of Pony Express will be recognized by a postage stamp and a stamped envelope, both of which will feature the design that is pictured in this newspaper. It is the work of Harold von Schmidt, it shows a Pony Express rider of a century ago applying his quirt to his already fast-moving mount. His mail pouches are slung fore and aft of his knees and the grip of his heavy pistol "Indian insurance" is visible at his belt. 120,000,000 of the stamps will be printed in sepia, to be issued July 19, to commemorate the April 3rd Centennial.
