The Civil War Story of Bloody Bill Anderson is one of the few books that deals with the life of Bloody Bill Anderson during the Missouri-Kansas border wars leading to the Civil War. The author is more interested in the affect of the conflict on individual lives than upon the big picture of the Civil War. The author thinks he offers a different perspective - while certainly not condoning or excusing the heinous deeds of Anderson, he portrays him perhaps in a slightly more sympathetic light.
Account begins in the late 1840s when Anderson was in grammar school in Randolph County, Missouri. Follows his life as he becomes a guerrilla and follows him to his death in 1864.
Good footnotes and bibliography.
