The Clay County land of Homer and Pansy Devling was on the bluffs of the Missouri River, above the Milwaukee R.R. Bridge. In 1953 that bridge was converted to highway use- Chouteau Road was graded through the Devling farm. Buckeye Creek also cuts through the land. J. Mett Shippee was a neighbor and frequent guest of the Devlings, and he found several archaeological sites on their bluffs and terraces.
