Research Notes

Notes

This is likely a U.S. M1912 or M1917 Service Coat. The M1912 and M1917 designs are very similar and difficult to tell apart, as the M1917 was just a simplified variant that made it easier to quickly mass-produce. Made from heavyweight wool with cotton lining and brass buttons, this garment was worn by the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. It demonstrates a practical approach to military attire, marking a philosophical shift from the ornate and colorful uniforms of the 19th century towards a more functional, camouflage-focused design.
