Comstock Family of Julia Comstock Field Photos (3), 1870s-1890s. b/w. Three photos of members of the family of Julia Comstock of St. Joseph, MO. who married Eugene Field in 1873. They were members of the August Comstock family, who lived until late 1873 at 5th & Isadore.
91.1H.283 = Augusta Comstock Ballantyne, youngest sister of Julia. She married John Ballantyne, who was managing editor of the Chicago Daily News where Eugene Field worked in the 1880s. Formal portrait photo of young woman with dark hair, worn up and back, with comb at crown. Her fancy dress is worn off shoulders. Handwritten on back: " August Comstock Ballantyne". c. 1880s.
91.1H.284 = Augusta Comstock Ballantyne, age 36. Similar photo to above but taken a few years later. She is wearing a white dress with low scoop neck, lace edge, with fabric flower. This is the dress worn at the wedding of Mary French Field, Eugene's sister, to William C. Englar. Handwritten on back " Augusta Comstock Ballantyne." c. 1890s.
