The Corn Maiden, Karl Moon Photograph, 1914. Photograph dry mounted on board larger than picture. Title printed on border, Copyright 1914 Karl Moon stamped at bottom right corner of photo. Sepia print.
Karl (Carl) Moon is a noted Indian photographer from the Southwest. In 1907 he managed Fred Harvey's art business at the Grand Canyon Headquarters. He photographed Pueblo Indians generally. His aim was to photograph Native Americans in their natural state, trying to show the Indian as he lived before civilization changed his view of life and altered his picturesque customs and mode of dress. He spent weeks at a time in tribal villages.
