Analysis of Prehistoric Plant Remains from an Archaeological Test at the Sibley Site, Jackson County, Missouri, 1986. Analysis of charred seeds and general survey of other microscopic data obtained from a test square at the Sibley village site (23JA73). This Kansas City Hopewell complex site is located in Fort Osage Park, near the town of Sibley, in northeastern Jackson County, Missouri.
The heavy fraction produced primarily contained granite and limestone fragments, chert flakes, charred nut shells, pottery fragments, gastropods, bones, and fish scales. Fish bones and scales were quite abundant and overwhelmingly dominated the faunal remains.
The light fraction contained mainly charred seeds, small fragments of nutshells and wood charcoal. The plant remains attest to the use of both wild and domesticated species.
