Description

Dankers Bird Record is a ledger book of Charles Dankers, taxidermist, from 1898 to 1915. A receipt included shows Dankers living in Corning, MO. Dankers chronicles over 400 mountings of birds, other mammals, and sea shells, listing the actual date the work was done, price of the work, and customer's name. Some customers are well known St. Joseph historical figures. Dankers also took part in counting of the migratory bird population conducted by the government and his sightings are listed for a number of years. Interestingly, Dankers also includes record of expenses he incurred, income from other activities including sale of property, a record of his egg business where he sold eggs for 10 cents/dozen. There is a letter inserted in the book, handwritten in German, dated 1932, perhaps from a fellow migratory bird counter in Europe. 34/Softbound.
