DAR Re-Enacts Unveiling of Pony Express Monument, News Article, April 18, 2010. St. Joseph News-Press. News story & news photo regarding D.A.R. Pony Express monument in Patee Park as part of 150th Anniversary Celebration. St. Joseph Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution has been credited for marking the eastern starting place of the Pony Express on April 3, 1913. The 150th Anniversary Celebration of the Pony Express, the St. Joseph Chapter did a re-enactment of the unveiling of the Pony Express monument in Patee Park. The United States Representative W. P. Borland's address in 1913 at the unveiling of the monument noted that St. Joseph was celebrating one of the greatest events in the history of the West--the opening of fast mail communication between the Missouri River and the Pacific Coast. The St. Joseph Daughters of the American Revolution had done a great work in preserving and perpetuating the historic event. News photo shows Joan Magee, current DAR chapter regent re-enacts the presentation of the monument to the actor portraying then Mayor C. A. Pfeiffer.
