Provenance
Notes
Harry George purchased LK 1 from Mrs. J. Frohman in 1904. Mrs. Frohman is believed to have acquired the basket from W. E. Casson. After Harry George passed in 1923, his collection was loaned to the Missouri Resources Museum in Jefferson City, Missouri, where it was inventoried and cataloged. At that time the basket was given the number 4280. The collection was brought back to St. Joseph, MO in 1944 and became a permanent part of the St. Joseph Museum in 1946. It was purchased by the Goetz family and donated to the museum and given an official accession number of 143. At some point the basket was seperated from the Harry George Collection and its location was unknown. Through extensive research Dr. Robert Corder, with the help of Jerome Evans, were able to track down the missing basket. The basket was located in 2020 in the collection of Dr. Alan Blaugrund, who had owned it for over 25 years. The basket was authenticated by Dr. Marvin Cohodas in 1995. The basket was purchased, and then donated to the St. Joseph Museum, in 2021 by Dr. Robert Corderin honor of Lorna Belle (Ecclefield) Corder.
