The Dawn seekers has a subtitle, The First History of American Paleontology. The author, Robert West Howard, went more deeply into the research about early man than others had done and proved Thomas Jefferson, Charles Wilson Peale, Benjamin Silliman, Amos Eaton and many others were right in their theories about animal and man of ancient times. Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species was even questioned. They took to task the conventional religious interpretation of the Biblical account of Creation, and proved that both science and religion were on a new footing. Fossil fields in New England and up and down the Rocky Mountains were excavated and studied. A Bibliography is included. This book is from the Don Reynolds library and is autographed by the author.
