Research Notes

Notes

This is likely the shirt purchased on these invoices. BEATRICE CREAMERY CO.; LINCOLN, NEB. VERN THORNBURGH HLG LEDGER VOL. II, p. 255g, ONLY ITEM ON PAGE LETTER DATED 3/30/1914 ALSO ON p. 256L Dr. Corder attached these invoices to 143/3523. I think the Thornburgh invoices are actually for this item 143/3524. Thornburgh describes the shirt as "painted and fringed somewhat". This shirt has had the Wounded Knee attribution in the catalog and on the tag associated with the item and I believe Thornburgh would have likely added "bird design" to the description had it been the other shirt. Sara Wilson 1/6/2023 Two Ghost Dance Dresses are in the collection, one George purchased from J.C. Tingley, one from Vern Thornburgh. SBE 01-12-2023 Per consultation, this dress was worn in a Sweat, worn in a coming of age ceremonies by young women about to get their first moon. Cody Hill 01/16/2023
