Phil King''s Dynatones played nightly at the Players Cocktail Lounge at 17th & Frederick Avenue from 1954 to 1968. Trio of back musicians were popular in the entire region. Hailing originally from West Virginia, one of the members relocated to St. Joseph with his wife and began playing at the Lounge. He told the owner about Phil King and King was invited to come play. Once in the city, the owner asked him for his band's name, and he picked the Dynatones, which the owner placed on the marquee. Phil brought other musicians to town to fill out the group.
Photo with news article shows Mr. King on piano, a bass player, saxophonist, drummer.
