(1) Journals of Travels into Kentucky July 15-1793-April 11, 1796 by Andre Michaux. Michaux, a well known botanist, was requested by the French government to study forest trees in North America with the thought of transplantation in France. In the US he was enlisted in a diplomatic mission by the French with settlers in Kentucky and did not accomplish a personal goal of exploring the entire Missouri basin as was later accomplished by Lewis & Clark.
(2) Travels to the west of the Alleghany Mountains in the states of Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee, and back to Charleston, by the upper Carolina; comprising the most interesting details on the present state of agriculture, and the natural produce of those countries; together with particulars relative to the commerce that exists between the above-mentioned states, a nd those situated east of the mountains and Low Louisiana, undertaken in the year 1802, under the auspices of His Excellency M. Chaptal, Minister of Interior, France. By Francois Andre Michaux. Francois is son of Andre Michaux.
(3) The Journal of a Tour into the Terriroty of the Alleghany Mountains; made in the Spirng of the Year 1803 with a geographical and historical account of the State of Ohio. Illustrated with maps and vies. by Thaddeus Mason Harris, Member of Massachusetts Historical Society. Harris is a clergyman and private secretary to George Washington. He contracted yellow fever in 1802 and his trip West was to convalesce.
