Scope and Content

An empty envelope, addressed to Wm. Stephenson, Esq., Alton, Was. from Nave & McCord Mercantile CO., St Joseph, Mo., postmarked Aug 8 (18)92, Saint Joseph, MO. It includes a green embossed 2¢ stamp with a profile of Geo. Washington.

Context

On the back is printed in black is an advertisement. In a diagonal banner across the middle reads 'St. Joseph's Great Fair - September 13-17 inclusive 1892' with details. Part of the left side has been torn off but, it gives info for the activities of Sept. 14th and below that Sept. 15th. The bottom right corner advertises the 'Greatest Agricultural And Mechanical Display Ever Given', and below notes 'St. Joseph is the home of' a list of 16 and other famous trotters, pacers, sires and dams of trotters that will be seen on the track at the September meeting.
