Description
Field, Eugene, Little Boy Blue Statue in St. Joseph Public Library Photos (5), c. 1950s. b/w. Five views, one in color, of the statue sponsored by Women's Press Club in 1943 depicting the subject of Eugene Field's poem "Little Boy Blue". The poem describes a little boy playing with a toy solider and toy dog who places them on the shelf, sadly the boy does not return. It is likely Field wrote this poem in memory of his son Roswell, born in St. Joseph, who died here.
The statue has been part of the lobby of the St. Joseph Public Library since its installation. Inscription " Erected to the memory of Eugene Field by the St. Joseph Women's Press Club, 1943"
