"End to Poet's Widow"
Mrs. Eugene Field Sticken by Heart Disease
Funeral to be Tomorrow with Burial in Vault Beside Famed Mate's Body..
--Heaford Junction, WI.--June 9.--The funeral of Mrs. Eugene Field, who died of an attack of heart disease late yesterday at her Crystal Lake estate, will be conducted tomorrow at Tomahawk, Wis. The family of the widow of the children's poet arranged for interment later in a vault beside the body of her husband at Kenilworth, Illinois.
Mrs. Field, the former Julia Sutherland Comstock of St. Joseph, Mo., suffered from heart disease last month when she faced the loss of her 155-acre estate.
But a $3000 loan from Field's fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, forestall a foreclosure sale.
Although she would have been eighty next December, she retained active interest in flowers, children and her farm. Eugene II, on of her four surviving children, was with her when she died.
'It came so suddenly', he said. 'She had been improving steadily since her property was saved.'
He said Mrs. Field had invested $60,000 of the $200,00 fortune the poet left on his death in Chicago in 1895 in the estate. She also invested in Chicago real estate.
Besides Eugene II, survivors include another son, Roswell, of New York; two daughters, Mrs. E.D. Foster of Tomahawk and Mrs. W.C. Englar of Pasadena, Cal; three sisters and a brothers. Another son, Frederick Skiff Field, died here in 1927.Lexicon
