Fifty Years of Modern Art, 1916-1966 is "a selection of paintings, sculptures, and one print..." which were selected in "an effort to deal mainly with the question of quality in modern art rather than with such themes as style, motif, or form." The Contents are divided in this way: Part 1: 1916 to World War II; and Part II: World War II to the Present. Included at the end of the book is a catalog of the artists arranged alphabetically along with a short biography of each.
