Description

Flag Incident that Flagged St. Joseph's Growth. Article in Gateway Magazine. Describing the tearing down of the U.S. Flag at the Post Office by confederate sympathizers led by Mayor Jeff Thompson in 1860. The flag incident was the most fateful in the 107 years of the City's corporate history. Indirectly, it was also claimed to be the making of Omaha as a railroad terminus and great industrial center, and, to a lesser degree, the making of Kansas City as the Missouri River metropolis. 3-page/Softbound/Article in 35 page Magazine
