Forty-Niners is a chronicle of the California Trail resulting from a commission to map the trail in 1931 by the Stewart Commission on Western History of Colorado College. The Eight maps resulted from using the original surveyors plat for every township and where the surveyor had noted where the old trail crossed. The maps resulted from a compilation of these notes on nearly 600 townships. Diary and journal excerpts were than added. A complete and connected story of the men and women who toiled through the dust and misery of the Overland Trail.
