Frontier Women, The Trans-Mississippi West --1840-1880 is the result of Julie Roy Jeffrey's research into long-ignored diaries, memoirs, and autobiographies of women who followed their husbands across the plains in covered wagons. The book focuses first on the Far West of in 1840's-18060's, then on the Dakotas, Nebraska, and Kansas of the 1870's. It also includes the mining frontier of California and Colorado, and the Black Hills. One chapter explores the Mormon experience in Utah.
A bibliography and index are included at the end of the book.
