Description

George Catlin Letters and Notes on the North American Indians. Published in 1 volume. The original "Letters & Notes" were published in 1841 in 2 volumes. It is the record, and sometimes the only record, of the last high glory days of the Indian nations west of the Mississippi. This volume is illustrated with Catlin's portraits and line drawings and preserves the best of his descriptions and anecdotes, describing the Indians while they still inhabited their own country, wore their native costumes, assumed their regular occupations, held feasts, ceremonies, dances, and adhered to medicines. Catlin traveled amongst these peoples from 1832-1836. 366/Hardbound/Jacketed/Illustrations/Photographs.
