Gold and Silver in the West . The first half of the book is a chorological account to the major stampedes of the New World. Then it quickly jumps ahead to the explosive years of the last half of the century, when the prospectors, developers, swindlers, and assorted camp followers washed across the land from San Francisco to South Dakota, and from southern Arizona to the frozen tundra of the Seward Peninsula of Alaska. There is a map that displays the gold and silver mining regions of the American West from 1800-1904.
