Description

The Great Salt Lake Trail, written by Colonel Henry Inman and Colonel William F. Cody, is a thick book with chapters about the various groups who headed west over this trail. "It will deal with the era of the trapper, the scout, the savage, and the passage of emigrants to the gold fields of California--when the only route was by the overland trail--and with the adventures which marked the long and weary march." The Mormons also used this trail, but their religion is not of prime concern in this book. Indian tribes are named as well as many of the Mountain Men and traders headed west. Great Salt Lake Trail was originally published in 1898. Cody and Inman worked together in Cody's Wild West Show and there is a photo of the two men at the front of the book. Book focus is the trail between the Missouri River and Salt Lake City before the building of the railroad. Deals with fur trappers, Indians, emigrants to California and Salt Lake, freighters and the Pony Express. Cody was Pony Express rider. Other riders: J.G. Kelley - p. 173; Pony Bob Haslam - p.175; Macaulas, Charles Cliff and James Moore - p. 179; Cody - p. 181; Whipsay & Little Cayuse - 198; Dead rider - p. 205 529/Hardbound/Illustrations/Photographs.
