Handbook of the American Rooms in Miniature was presented by Mrs. James Ward Thorne to the Art Institute of Chicago in 1942. It consists entirely of American interiors and gives an unusually complete survey of the development of domestic interior design in America from the seventeenth century to 1942. It is a fully developed American Wing in miniature. In many instances the rooms are reproductions or reconstructions of famous examples, some intimately connected with the lives of famous Americans.
