Hands on the Past has a subtitle on the title page: Pioneer Archaeologists Tell Their Own Story, and the book is edited by C. W. Ceram. This book is confined almost entirely to the authentic writings of the Archaeologists themselves. The book covers the period of the first systematic excavations up to the present day. Areas of the world covered are Europe, North Africa, the Near East and both the Americas. Prehistoric discoveries have not been included because they do not come within the scope of the book. The contents are divided into subject matter: The Book of the Statues; The Book of the Pyramids; The Book of the Towers; The Book of the Rocks and Valleys; and The Book of the Steps. The last chapter is New Methods in Archeology. The author has written other books under his real name, Kurt W. Marek. This book is from the Don Reynolds library.
