Born in Tekendorf, Romania, as a teen Martin & his family were taken to a refugee camp in Austria by the Germans. He stayed in Austria for 8 years. Rather to return to Romania, that was becoming Communist, Martin & his brother, Michael, as single men, immigrated to the United States as Displaced Persons on board the USS Naval Ship "General Harry Taylor" arriving in New York on January 6, 1952. They answered a call for farm work from Beverly Pitts in the St. Joseph area and came directly to St. Joseph to initially work on Pitts farms in Kansas and Rosendale, MO.
Martin married and settled here, moving to Chicago from time to time for work. His brother Michael settled in St. Joseph and their mother, Susanna, later immigrated and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery. See attach Multimedia documentLexicon
