St. Joseph News-Press February 26, 2005 is a picture of Maurice Morris, Hamilton Henderson, Omeaul Lucas and Joe Adams. These local black citizens were reflecting on life. After watching Mississippi Burning at the theater. Joe Adams reflected back as that was his hometown before he moved to St. Joseph. Maurice Morris, a Central High student, thinks they pay more close attention to him because they think he is going to do something wrong.
Omeaul Lucas 79 was married to St. Joseph's first black city councilman and acting mayor, John Lucas Sr. She has seen her share of prejudice and also her share of goodness.
In the St. Joseph News-Press June 4, 2009 there is a picture of Hamilton Henderson, who is retiring after teaching for 40 years at Central High school. He stated that it's that curiosity and that inquiry that kids have that excites me. His parents raised him in an apartment above the Tapee Fruit Market. Upstairs in the 200 block of Edmond, where a Holiday Inn now stands, the youngster could gaze down on the farmers as they rolled in each day at the City Market. Mr. Henderson's lectern is covered with 23 years worth of signatures and scrawlings of former students. The lectern is being weatherized in the shop at school. After that, Henderson said he would like to turn the relic of his teaching career into an outdoor mini bar.Lexicon
