Description
Historic Trails Center, St. Joseph, Missouri, National Trails Committee Minutes & Correspondence, 1984-1987. Notebook compiled by Jackie Lewin, St. Joseph Museum staff member, of the proceedings of this committee of which she was a member.
In the 1980s, the community was interested in developing a Trails Center Historic Museum in St. Joseph to be located somewhere on the riverfront to tell the story of the importance of St. Joseph as an emigration jumping-off point in Mud 1800s. Promotes the idea of a National Trails Center.
The group created a proposal; "Historic Trails Center" Jim Mehl was principal writer. Jackie Lewin and Rich Nolf aided in providing information and editing. See item# 94.63.1 to view this proposal.
The idea of a Trails Center has never died and in 2020, the idea keeps resurfacing as the City again contemplates development of the riverfront area.
