Description

History of Scotts Bluff National Monument begins with the geographical setting of the bluff and then talks about its significance as a site on the overland emigration trails and the development of the town nearby. Most of the book deals with the National Park movement and the sites history as a National Monument beginning in 1919. The development and improvements at the site are divided up by Superintendent or Custodian. One of these was Merrill Mattes, author of numerous trail articles including the books Platte River Road and Platte River Road Narratives. 81/Soft Bound/Photographs
