1999.27.2200Description
Originally this was cataloged only as "BOX" with the description of "UNOPENED". This is a small box, the lid is labeled "points, MIS CL GRAVES SCRAPERS. 23CP7". From the J Mett Shippee Collection
Inside the box is a note that reads:
Rice Co Kansas
Summer 1940
USNM Exp
Tobias Site (RV2)
Basin 2
It seems the contents + note and the lid description do not match. The 23CP7 site would be in Missouri, the Tobias site is in Kansas. Since the contents are not scrapers, it is assumed the lid is mislabeled and these remains belong to the Tobias-Thompson site (Tobias side).
Box contains:
6 patella: four right, two left
One right maxillary incisor, 3 mandibular canines, 1 mandibular incisor, 4 mandibular molars (two with significant wear), 4 cervical vertebrae (1 axis vertebra complete, three fragmented), two mandible fragments ( both with a tooth present. One is a juvenile, right. The adolescent premolar is present and erupted, while the adult tooth is visible underneath. The third molar is visible but completely unerupted. The other is an adult, right with a molar present), and two maxillary fragments (one very small but with an unerupted tooth visible, likely an incisor, the other is a left fragment with a portion of the zygomatic arch present, an unerupted third molar visible, the first and second molars, and the first and second premolars fully erupted. Adult canine visible but unerupted.Collection
