Description

Indian Sculpture done by Harry E. Wright Harry was the son of Alta (commonly called Sissy) and Austin (commonly known as Deacon) Wright. Sissy was the sister of Rosa Nichols. J.R. (Bob) and Rosa Nichols lived on 1905 Pacific Street in St. Joseph, Missouri. The Wrights lived up the alley behind the Nichols house, across a dirt street, and up another alley to their back gate. Harry always lived with his mother. Harry was an artist, but he never took art lessons. When St. Joseph opened an art museum in one of the older mansions of the city, Harry got a job there. Later, he became curator of the St. Joseph Museum. Harry also painted Flowers in a Bowl in 1933 which he gave to Bonita. He also sculptured an Indian Statue which he gave to Robert Cunningham when Robert was a boy. Something fell on the Indian and broke his legs.
