Description

Indian War of 1864, with an Introduction and Notes by Clyde C. Walton, Illinois State Historian. An eyewitness account based on the daily journal of Captain Eugene F. Ware. After the battle of Gettysburg in 1863, companies of the Seventh Iowa Calvary were ordered west to fight the Indians between Omaha and the Rocky Mountains and to counteract the tactical plan of the Confederacy aimed at inciting Indian uprisings to harass the Union. The author, Eugene F. War, was a volunteer calvary officer of the Seventh Iowa. This book gives his description of the frontier during the Civil War and the dangers of serving in the West instead of the South. This is a 1960 reprint of the original 1911 publication. 480/Hardbound/Jacketed
