The Invisible Demon, Short Story by Juliette A. Owen. A Dr. Easton story about a pair of disembodied eyes.Context
The Invisible Demon.
About mid-afternoon of a normal, sun-shiny day, a pair of detached eyes, at a height of about six feet, more or less, from the pavement, were seen by a score of people, moving at the rate of what would be termed a suanter, along one of the best residence portions of the town. They were said to have administered something like an electric shock to whomsoever they fell upon. They were manifestly Evil Eyes.
The man who first saw them was so near that he threw out his hands with a startled exclamation that changed to a shriek of mortal fright, as, plunging backwards, he glared frenziedly at the space before him.
"The Eyes! The Eyes!" he chattered, his own orbs wildly rolling.Lexicon
