Research Notes

Notes

This is likely a U.S. Army Model 1944 Field Jacket. Worn in the final years of World War II, this jacket was made from wool and designed to be worn both in combat and as a dress uniform. It was created under the direction of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, which earned it the popular nickname of the "Eisenhower jacket" or "Ike jacket." It was inspired by the "Battle Dress" of the British Army, which offered more practicality and freedom of movement than the existing U.S. Army uniforms.
