Scope and Content

James, Jesse, Bullet Hole Controversy, Letter from George Warfel, artist to Don Reynolds, 1975. Letter with envelope and diagram. Warfel is communicating with Don Reynolds after his visit to the St. Joseph Museum. Warfel had evidently met with Reynolds over some Jesse James material. Included in the letter is a diagram Warfel made of the living room in the James home at the time of the assassination that he made, he says, from the reports given by the Ford brothers to law enforcement. He does not believe the "bullet hole" deemed to be from the assassin's bullet to be authentic. Rather he believes picture Jesse was straightening to be on an adjacent wall by door. He further believes the bullet hole too high on the wall. He believes the bullet never exited Jesse's head, as shot from behind his face is intact.
