Scope and Content

Jewelry belonging to the Leach and Moss families. Most of the jewelry that was given to Mary Leach Moss during her marriage to J. B. Moss was undoubtedly sold at the time of the family financial crisis in the late 1920's. The pieces which were retained came to Mary Leach Moss through the Leach family or had been gifted to her daughter Catherine before the the date of the dispersal. A few other pieces may have been gifts to Catherine from her husband J. D. Barrow after their marriage. It would require an expert to sort this out. However, many of the pieces are monogramed so that dating is clear. Unfortnately, in an attempt to get clear photographs, many of the pieces appear multiple times and this may be confusing. The pearl ring and the opal ring appear nearly identical in the photographs. My camera did a poor job of understanding how to focus on these small, shiny objects. There are ten rings altogether. However, I may gift one of the baby rings to a dear friend who has just given birth to a little girl. Also, in jpg 14524, in the upper left just below the large gold pin, note that there is a set of very old gold jewerly, a pin/pendant, earrings and a set of cuff links. These have black, cut stone settings with numerous seed pearls. I'm quite certain that they came from the Word/ Leach families. I neglected to make a close-up photogarph of them. There are no monograms or inscriptions.
