John Wyeth, Brother, to W.M. Wyeth, Letters, 1881. Ten letters written by Wm. M. Wyeth's brother, John, to him in St. Joseph, MO. Two letters written by brother, Frank. Except for one, all are written on John Wyeth & Brother, Manufacturing Chemists, Philadelphia, letterhead. Most are typewritten. Covers January-November, 1881
Main theme of a number of the letters are John & Frank's efforts to locate and send to W.M. a suitable cook. John locates one and sends her on the train to St. Joe. Another main topic is John's agreement to find an appropriate selection of diamonds that W.M. plans to give to his daughter, Maud. John uses an associate to purchase them wholesale and have them set by Tiffany's.
John mentions W. M.'s decision to close the Kansas City operation and the unsatisfactory performance of their brother, Parker, there.
John Wyeth's letter depicts the attitude of a successful eastern business man and his penchant for leisure and society and his disdain for W.M. hard at work attitude.
John is also investing monies with W. M.Collection
