Scope and Content
Kansas Flood as Told by Topeka Daily Capital. July 1951
In five days during July 1951, Kansas suffered greater damage from floods than droughts, tornadoes and other disasters had ever brought it in any other entire year of the states' existence. During the period July 11-15 whole villages and rich, vital parts of large cities were completely ruined. Early estimates placed the total loss to the state at nearly $1,000,000,000. In Kansas and Missouri 41 persons lost their lives. About 165,000 were left homeless.
