Ellen Tootle James was the daughter of Mary Armstrong Tootle and W. K. James. She was born in St. Joseph in 1885. She was a poet. and had resided in Peoria, Il until 1945 and then in Boothbay, Maine until her death at age 92, where she was buried. She lived with Miss Sidney Baldwin for 55 years.
