Research Notes

Notes

This stone lamp was created by the Inuit people in Eagle Harbor, Alaska. This lamp, or qulliq, would have served as the sole source of light and heat in the long winter days in Alaska, where the northernmost settlements would not see the sun for 67 days. Even in southern settlements, the most amount of sunlight one could expect during winter months is about 5-6 hours a day.
