Description

Larson, Theo Thornton, Mrs. L.M., with Parasol, Portrait Photos (2), c. 1870s. Photo of Lozo studio portrait of young woman holding parasol. She has dark hair, with curls at bangs, her hair worn up. Her light dress is tight, front-button bodice with lace yoke and high lace collars, with tight sleeves. ¾ length view. See Museum Graphic, Fall, 1954, Vol. VI, No. 4. Theodosia Thornton was married to L.M. Lawson, who was a junior partner in the St. Joseph law firm of Donnell, Lawson, & Simpson. Lawson was for a time president of the State National Bank of St. Joseph. He later opened the firm's branch office in London and Mrs. Lawson was presented at the court of Queen Victoria. It is possible that Theo was related to the wife of Robert Donnell, nee Mary Thornton. #222 is enlargement. Handwritten below photo: "Alex Lozo" and "Presented to my dear friend from Theo Lawson." Handwritten on back of photo: "Mrs. L.M. Lawson nee Theo Thornton, Liberty." Roy Coy, 1954. Original digital scan located on History CD 03.
