Legacy From the Past, a Portfolio of Eighty-eight Original Williamsburg Buildings was probably published to give Americans some insite to the planned city of Williamsburg, Virginia, which was America's second colonial capital. There are eighty-eight original buildings which have been saved and restored, thanks to the interest of the Reverend W. A. R. Goodwin, former rector of Bruton Parish Church, and Mr. John D. Rokefeller, Jr., whose combined vision saved the major portion of the eighteenth-century town. There are photographs of most of the buildings--large and small--showing examples of each type of building in the town with emphasis on the architecture. The last few pages are devoted to detail such as cornices, dormers, chimneys, mantels, hinges, ballistrades, etc.
